Hydrated Lime in Asphalt

Since 2023 National Highways has included Hydrated Lime in Asphalt (HLiA) in their Low Carbon Opportunities Register.

National Highways has reviewed HLiA performance data and has concluded that it provides long term carbon savings through more durable performance. Under reference PAV-239, the register states "The primary carbon benefits of the use of HLiA will be yielded in whole life terms with longer lasting materials resulting in fewer interventions and less material replacement. Fewer interventions means less energy consumption, fewer construction activities and lower associated emissions". HLiA "..should not be overlooked as an opportunity....when considering the material options for a scheme".
